Leeds Regional Business Forum

On Thursday 16 June, around 60 key wholesalers, manufacturers and industry bodies in the electrical installation supply chain, came to Aspire Conference Centre in Leeds for a morning of networking, presentations and discussions on subjects that are of importance to the industry.

Delegates heard four highly topical presentations from the LIA, ECA, Honeywell and an Education and Training update from the EDA. The event was facilitated by Ray Smith, EDA Board Member responsible for Regional Business Forums.

LIA – Important developments in lighting

Stewart Price and Andy Guest from the Lighting Industry Association (LIA) gave an update on the latest from the LIA, including a presentation on the New Emergency lighting legislation, LED compliance scheme and the WEEE Directive.

What the ECA is saying about the IoT to its members and why this is important for wholesalers

The Electrical Contractors’ Association’s (ECA) Head of Specialist Groups, Steve Martin, spoke about the Internet of Things (IoT) and what is in it for wholesalers and manufacturers. Steve enlightened EDA members about what the ECA is telling its members, so wholesalers and manufacturers are now able to gain additional revenue streams, and a greater understanding of the technology, to add value to customers and clients as this market evolves.

Opportunities in BIM for Wholesalers

Logan Colbeck, Sales Strategy Leader for Honeywell E&ES, who has become immersed in BIM, within Honeywell, and in the industry over the past two years, gave a brief introduction to BIM, the Manufacturer’s role in BIM, an overview of the market and how Wholesalers can benefit from BIM.
